Joe DeAmato - First Place

3 Cushion National Championship Qualifying Tournament

On Sunday, January 12, 2014, eight players entered the National Qualifier at Amazin Billiards in Malden, Massachusetts. In what was probably the most competitive tournament in 10 years in the Boston area, 3 players finished with 5 & 2 records and the order of finish was decided by the number of points made. The 8 players were Ben Parker, Bob Page, Bob Ferrara, Tony Ferrara, Dave Egdahl, Lenny Collibee, Chris O'Brien and Joe DeAmato.

An 8-player round robin was the format and the end result went down to the wire. In the last round, 2 games were going on simultaneously and happened to be on adjoining tables. One table had Dave Egdahl playing Bob Ferrara. This was the key game as a win by Bob Ferrara would have him qualifying for the Nationals with a record of 6 & 1. Bob's only loss to that point was an early round loss to Joe DeAmato by a score of 20 to 7. That loss didn't bode well for Bob's chances but he battled all day and put himself in position to win it all. A win by Dave Egdahl, however, would open the door for one of the players playing on the adjacent table: Bob Page or Joe DeAmato.

The Egdahl - Ferrara match was a tight one and the score was tied at 17 in a 20-point match. Dave Egdahl ended up winning the game which solidified Bob Ferrara's fate. Ferrara finished in 2nd; Egdahl in 3rd. The Page - DeAmato match ended 20 to 13 in 20 innings and the victor was Joe DeAmato who finished in 1st place. Joe felt very fortunate to have won and appreciated the congratulations from all the competitors. As often happens, Ferrara beat Page, Page beat Egdahl, Egdahl beat DeAmato and DeAmato beat Ferrara. Go figure!

4th Bob Page 4 & 3 128 points
5th Tony Ferrara 4 & 3 120 points

7th Chris O'Brien 1 & 6 111 points
8th Lenny Collibee 1 & 6 83 points

Up to 10 players
USBA National Champions cannot participate.

Entry Fee: USBA Members: $120
Non-members: $145

Top 2 finishers win $300 entry fee into Nationals plus $200 each in cash.
