2012 USBA TOUR
Pedro Piedrabuena Comes Out On Top In Grand Style
MAYWOOD - The 40-year-old Pedro Piedrabuena from San Diego, California has won the Open USBA Three-Cushion Tournament in Maywood, California. In the finals, he defeated Hugo Patiño, the number one ranked U.S. Player, in a magnificent match: 30 points in eight innings (final score 30-17).
The tournament, with a total prize money amount of over $18,000.00, was played at Eight Ball Billiards in Maywood and was part of the Open tournament series of the USBA.
Forty-three players were divided into 6 groups. Five of the groups had 7 players and one group had 8 players, playing round robin to 25 points. The top USBA-ranked “A” players were seeded into the qualification groups, one per group. The top 2 finishers from each group advanced to the semifinals along with one auction winner and one lottery winner.
Semi-Finals: Fourteen players divided into 2 groups of 7 players - advanced to the semifinals, where matches were played to 30 points. The top finisher from each group played the final match
The start of the final match was high-leveled. Piedrabuena made six from the break, Hugo Patiño answered with six. Piedrabuena continued the high level, but Patiño couldn't keep up with him. The runs of Piedrabuena: 6, 4, 1, 6, 4, 4 1, 4.

*$17,000 prize fund is based on 40 players (10 "A" players + 30 "B" or "C" players) + auction & lottery. 100% of monies received through auction & lottery is added to the prize fund. The prize fund distribution may change depending on the number of players inscribed in the tournament & auction & lottery receipts.
Entry Fee:
"A" Players (.800+ average) = $335*
USBA Rankings Bonus: For "Open" TOUR events, the top 6 nationally-ranked players will each receive $300 expense money when they arrive and play at the event, assuming they are eligible to participate. "B" or "C" players are also permitted to participate in this benefit if they manage to become nationally-ranked into the top six. Jim Shovak has opted himself out of this benefit. This extra bonus money is coming directly from individual sponsors. In order to qualify for the bonus, a player must reside in the United States and must not play in a foreign National Championship. The Rankings Bonus qualifications for each event will be based on the USBA Rankings that is in effect at the time that the tournament is officially announced. Those players' names will be posted in the tournament announcement and will not change regardless of any in-between rankings changes.
The Rankings Bonus for this event is based on the February 29, 2012 USBA Rankings. The players who qualify for this bonus are:

Qualifications Format
40 players divided into 5 Groups of 8 players—playing round robin. Matches will be 25 points. The top 2 finishers from each Group advance to the Semifinals. The top USBA-ranked “A” players (which may include foreign players) will be seeded into the Qualification groups, one per group. The remaining players will be assigned by random draw. 10 players plus 1 Auction & 1 Lottery winner will advance to the next round. 12 players total in the Semifinals.
Semifinals/Finals Format
12 players divided into 2 groups of 6 players—playing round robin. Matches will be 30 points. The top finisher from each Semifinal Group will play for 1st and 2nd place overall.
Dress Code: FULL DRESS ATTIRE: dress shirt, black slacks, black shoes, formal-wear tie and vest.
No check payments. Pay cash at the event.
*Includes $10 USBA Sanction Fee & $25 USBA non-member fee which goes to the USBA
