Good News for Traveling Three Cushion Players!
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) made it a little easier for billiard players, pocket and carom alike, to travel when it announced that cues could be carried onto airliners.
In a March 6, 2013 press release, the TSA indicated that restrictions put into place in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks would be loosened. Effective April 25, 2013, passengers will be able to carry on not only billiard cues but also lacrosse sticks, hockey sticks, ski poles and up to two golf clubs.
The TSA explained that the new regulations were instituted to conform TSA standards to international standards and to allow security officers to "better focus their efforts on finding higher threat items such as explosives."
Since this won't become official until April 25, remember that you will still have to check your cue with your baggage if you plan on playing in the Nationals.
