We are sad to report the news that Bob Tracy passed away on Thursday, July 13. Details are still forthcoming, and we will pass them along as soon as they are available.
Bob was a great friend and a lifelong enthusiast and excellent player of the sport of 3 cushion billiards.
Bob was educated in math and science and spent a career of 30 years working on mainframe computers at Control Data Corp. With his mathematical bent of mind, Bob loved thinking about and teaching billiard shots and systems. We don’t yet have all of the details of his billiard playing accomplishments, but we do remember finding a brochure from the 1972 National 3 Cushion Billiard Finals held at the Medford Oregon Elks Lodge, which featured Bob Tracy among the dozen or so top players in the country.
In recent years, Bob had become a very generous supporter of our sport. After his beloved wife Marti passed away in 2011, Bob started traveling to play in tournaments again. At the 2011 annual fall tournament at the Medford Elks Lodge, where Bob won the Senior Singles event with a 9 run, he was so happy to be competing again that he wrote a large check to fund the purchase of modern heated tables for our future tournaments. Since then, Bob continued to support billiards by donating additional money to tournament prize funds, especially for the annual fall singles tournament formerly named after Bob’s wife, Marti, but which will now be called the Bob and Marti Tracy Memorial.
Tom Resk, of neighboring Chico, CA, played regularly with Bob for many years, and reports that plans are being made for a Celebration of Life for Bob at the Oroville Eagles Lodge, where Bob played billiards for years. If you have any stories about Bob that you’d want to share, please email them to Tom at this email address:
