US Bida (Billiards) in Houston, Texas, the host room for the 2019 USBA National Championship, held a qualifier event Saturday, March 16. The winners Cong Nguyen and Dung Nguyen (pictured above L to R) received paid entry into the championship tournament.
The qualifier tournament drew 12 players who competed in four preliminary flights of three. Then, two from each flight moved on to an eight man single elimination final. The top two received full entry to the nationals, while the third/fourth finishers received a 2/3 entry fee prize.
Of the twelve entrants eleven were from the strong Vietnamese billiard community... in fact seven shared the last name Nguyen. Third/fourth place went to John Nguyen and the sole Hispanic player, Joel Rivera, All the players had a great time competing and look forward to testing their skill against the best in the USA in May.
The 2019 USBA 3-Cushion National Championship will be held May 16-19 at US Bida/Billiards in Houston Texas.
