Overall, it was a great success for Team USA at the 2024 Panamerican Championships held in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Club Social y Deportivo Unión located in Quilmes. The USBA was well represented by Hugo Patino, Pedro Piedrabuena, Tae Kyu Lee, John Park, Raymon Groot, and Jesus Corona. All players competed in both the Individual and Team Championships. Andrew Janquitto was the official USBA Delgate and accompanied Team USA during the competition and was responsible for all the organization for the Team prior to departure. Travel cost for the players was offset by the recently established Travel Fund set up and organized by player and USBA Board Member Jesus Corona. Once again, thank you to our Travel Fund Sponsors.
Results Individual
William Villanueva from Venezuela wins the final over Daniel Morales from Colombia with a sclore of 50 to 48. 3rd place finishers were José Juan García from Colombia and Javier Vera from Mexico. The USA's Raymon Groot and Hugo Patiño finished 5th-8th place both securing a spot in the UMB World Championship to be held in Vietnam in September. Pedro Piedrabuena lost in the round of 16 and John Park in the round of 32.
Results Team
Colombia's Huberney Cataño & Pedro González win gold in the Panamerican Team Championship. The silver medal went to Javier Vera & Christian Hernández from Mexico. USA's Hugo Patiño & Pedro Piedrabuena were bronze medalists along with Ramón Rodriguez & Cristopher Tévez from Peru. The USA's Tae Kyu Lee & John Park finished 8th and Raymon Groot & Jesús Corona finished 10th.
It was truely exciting following along throughout the tournament as Team USA made a wonderful showing. All the players provided some thrilling moments and, as a whole, the USBA should be exultant that we have high quality players representing us at international competitions.

In the first round of the tournament for National Teams USA team B scored 3 out of 4 points against Chile B. Tae Kyu Lee tied his match against Cristian Rubilar and John Park was victorius in his match with Peter Sarmiento. There are 6 groups of 3 teams. The winners of each group advance plus the two best 2nd place finishers.

The USBA will field three teams in the 27th Team (XXVII Por Equipos) championships. The three teams are: USA A Pedro Piedrabuena & Hugo Patino; USA B Tae Kyu Lee & John Park; and USA C Raymon Groot & Jesus Corona.
Groot & Patiño's Bid Ends in Round of 8
Raymon Groot and Hugo Patiño both lost in the round of 8 players. However, by reaching the last 8 they have secured themselves a spot in the UMB Wolrd Championship. Groot lost to William Villanueva of Venezuela, the score was 40 to 22 in 24 innings. Patiño lost to Colombia's José Juan García 40 to 34 in 38 innings.

Pedro Piedrabuena Advances with Win over Cataño
Pedro Piedrabuena defeated Colombia's Huberney Cataño with a score of 40 to 14 in 18 innings. Finishing in 18 innings is the best game in the finals so far. Colombia's Andrés Lizarazo has the high run with a 16 scored in his first round match. Pedro will face Colombia's Daniel Morales in the next round. Hugo will meet Andrés Lizarazo and Raymon Groot will be matched with Juan Pablo Sisterna from Argentina.

Raymon Groot upsets no. 1 seed Luis Angel Martinez 40-38 in the round of 32 players in the finals of the Panamerican Championship. Unfortunately, John park lost to Erick Téllez 40-34 which ends his bid. The USA players will also compete in the Team competition so there is still more to come for TEAM USA.

Four of the six USBA players have advanced to the final 32. They now play knockout (single elimination) and matches with be to 40 points. Raymon Groot faces Luis Angel Martinez from Colombia, John Park will play Erick Tellez from Costa Rica, Hugo will play Ecuador's Luis Aveiga, and Pedro Piedrabuena is matched up against Huberney Catano from Colombia.

Raymon Groot Advances
Despite having won 2 matches in his group of 4 players, Jesus Corona unfortunately did not advance. Raymon Groot moves on and the USA has five players stiil in contention. The groups with Pedro Piedrabuena and John Park have finished some matches, the other groups will play later in the day.

USA players Raymon Groot and Jesus Corona win their opening round matches in the qualifcation rounds. An eyewitness account attests that both USA players struggled but emerged victorious. Hugo Patino, Pedro Piedrabuena, Tae Kyu Lee, John Park skip the qualification round.
Tournament Dates: 16 to 22 June, 2024
Top players from the 2024 USBA National Championship will compete at the 2024 Panamerican Championships to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina June 16 to the 22nd. Hugo Patino, Pedro Piedrabuena, Tae Kyu Lee, John Park, Raymon Groot, and Jesus Corona have booked their passage.

The US players will compete in the 32nd Individual (XXXII Categoría Máxima) and the 27th Team (XXVII Por Equipos) championships. Additionally, there are events for Juniors and Ladies in 3-cushion.

Hugo and Pedro have been paired for one team and Tae Kyu and John Park will be the pairing for a second team. If space permits, Raymon and Jesus will compete as a third team.

The event will be held at the Club Social y Deportivo Unión located in Quilmes, Argentina and is hosted by the Federación Argentina de Aficionados al Billar (FAAB) and the Confederación Panamericana de Billar (CPB).
