Ertan Tarhan and Jesus Quinonez Qualify for the Nationals

Eleven players competed in one group in the qualifier held at the Tacoma Elks Lodge #174 March 28 and 29. Camilo Toro went undefeated winning ten straight matches which is quite an accomplishment. Unfortuantely, Camilo will not be able to attend the USBA National Championship so the two qualified players are Ertan Tarhan and Jesus Quinonez. Ertan lost only one match (to Camilo) to finish 2nd in the group. Jesus lost two matches finishing 3rd (losing to Camilo and Ertan). Just missing out was Dan O'Rourke who finished 4th with a 7/3 win/loss record (again losing to Camilo, Ertan, and Jesus).

Adolfo Aguilera, David Ramirez, and Hernan Patarroyo Qualify for the Nationals

Thirteen players competed in the USBA National Qualifier held at Carom Billiards in Lauderhill Florida on March 21st. The three qualified players are Adolfo Aguilera, averaging .893; David Ramirez, averaging .992; and Hernan Patarroyo, averaging .775. Those averages will make the three players very competitive during the qualification rounds at the upcoming USBA National Championship. Julian Molina, Walter Castro, and Jovanny Ceballos, finishing 4th through 6th, all averaged above .700.

Noe Lara and William Layton qualified for the Nationals.
A field of eight players competed in the qualifier at 5000 Years Carom Billiards on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The players were: Sergio Silva, Noe Lara, Henry Ugartechea, Trino Espinoza, William Leyton, Nery Alan Loeza, Peter Bahn, and Sam Yum. There were two Groups of 4 players and in Group A it was Noe Lara who edged out Henry Ugartechea for the top spot. Both players finished with 2 wins and 1 loss each.


Group B was dominated by William Layton who went undefeated. Sergio Silva finished 2nd in the Group with 2 wins and a loss to William.

Won Sik Kang and Dae Ro Lee Qualify for the Nationals
9 Players competed in 2 Groups, round robin. Matches were played to 25 points. Ranking is based on W/L, Average.

Won Sik Kang dominated in Group A winning his three matches with an overall average of 1.014. He was pushed in his final round match with Edgar Cesbedes narrowly winning 25-23. The match was on balance throughout which made it tight and tense in the closing stages with each player missing by narrow margins. Rufino Perez secured 2nd place with his final round 25-19 victory over Bong Kyun Ko. Both players had a 1/1 win/loss record prior to the start of the match.

Group B had five players and the leaderboard kept swinging but was eventually swung in the favor of Dae Ro Lee who finished undefeated. After getting the BYE the fisrt round Dae Ro faced Young Kyu Lee in the second round. Young Kyu had won his first match 25-14 and looked in good form as he rolled to 24-19 against Dae Ro only to see Dae Ro run a six-and-out to capture victory. Both Sang Ho Kim and Jung Kwon got to 22 points against Dae Ro but neither could stop his advance to first in the Group. Young Kyu Lee, who finished 2nd in the Group, had the best overall average of .960. Jorge Palacio, competing in his first USBA tournament, snatched a victory from Young Kyu who had been playing well all evening.

Harry Pena and Carlos Mario Villegas Qualify for the Nationals
6 Players competed in a round robin. Matches were played to 25 points. Ranking is based on W/L, Average.
Harry Pena went undefeated averaging 1.812.

Harry Pena scorched his way through the field at the Carom Cafe Billiards National Qualifier scoring his 25 points in 10, 19, 10, 14, and 16 innings over the course of his five matches for an immpressive grand average of 1.812. Going undefeated he secured the top spot to qualify for the Nationals. The battle for 2nd place to earn another qualifing spot was tensly fought between Quoc Tuan Vo, Sang Ho Kim, and Carlos Mario Villegas. Quoc defeated Carlos Mario in the first round then followed that with a victory over Young Gull Lee in his second match before losing to Sang Ho Kim in his third match. Carlos Mario rebounded with a win in his second round match against Sang Ho Kim but then lost to Harry Pena in his next match. Quoc had a chance to finish 2nd but he needed a win over Harry Pena in his final match but Harry closed that door. Quoc, Sang Ho, and Carlos Mario all ended with 3 wins and 2 losses but it was Carlos Mario who posted the best average of 1.440, which meant he earned the second qualifing spot. Carlos Mario also played a 10 inning game in his final match.
Carlos Mario Villegas finished 3/2 with a 1.440 grand average.

Edward Gomez, Oscar Pardo, Young Ha Choi, and Seung Kwon Hong Qualify for the Nationals
16 Players competed in 4 Groups, round robin. Matches were played to 25 points. Ranking is based on W/L, Average.

Group A proved to be a tough battle with all the players about equal. In the first round Eric Kwon easily defeated Ahmed Elmaghrbi while Edward Gomez struggled to win over Alex Koh in 41 innings. Gomez's struggled continued in the second round as he lost to Eric Kwon. Ahmed frustratingly lost his second match to Alex 25-24. In the third round of matches Gomez scrapped by with a win against Ahmed (another match lost by one point for Ahmed!) while it was Eric Kwon's turn to struggle in his match with Alex, who prevailed 25-18. Eric was 2-0 with the best average heading into the final game but he lost ground to Gomez. There was quite a bit of tension and excitement in both matches at the end.

In Group B, in hindsight, it seems the ranking was decided in the first round match between Oscar Pardo and Sang Jin Lee. Oscar won 25-19 and although he was pushed at times in his other matches Oscar always pulled through. Sang Jin won his next two matches scoring 25 points in 25 innings in both. Sean Kim and Jorge Ruiz both kept trying to press their opponents but kept coming up short.

Young Ha Choi won handily over Jason Chong in the first round in Group C as did Dae Ro Lee over Edgar Cesbedes. The second round match between Young Ha and Dae Ro was a battle all the way with neither palyer willing to yield until the end. Jason Chong picked up the pace in his second match scoring 25 in 27 innings to defeat Edgar and then exploded in his final match posting the best match of the tournament (1.923) winning 25-3 in 13 and 12 innings over Dae Ro Lee. Young Ha Choi went 3-0 to win the Group. He and Oscar Pardo were the only two players to win all three matches.

Group D started with a thriller match between Sergio Tapia and Seung Kwon Hong. Sergio managed to hold off S.K. in the closing stages winning 25-22. Dong Wook Oh kept Jung Kwon at bay during their match. S.K. Hong came alive in his next two matches winning both in 15 and 14 innings over Dong Wook and Jung Kwon. This gave him the best overall average for the tournament scoring 72 points in 64 innings for a Grand Average of 1.125. Sergio's winning streak ended after his first match and Jung Kwon finished in 22 innings in his final match for a good showing.
Seung Kwon Hong qualified in Group D with the best overall average (1.125) after losing his first round match.
