PARKER HESS MEMORIAL USBA "ENDORSED" Here is the write-up by Tom Thomsen, Billiard Co-Chairman of the Ashland Elks Billiard Club: The tournament was held on Friday, May 9th through Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Ashland Elks Lodge #944 in Ashland, Oregon. Six Gabriels billiard tables were used for 24 players. The players came from Washington, Oregon, and California. The field was broken up into three flights: Red flight ("B"), White flight ("C+"), and Blue flight ("C"). There were eight players per flight so a round-robin was held in each flight. The top three players in each flight were awarded cash prizes and a high-run cash prize was also given for each flight (see flights below). The Red flight was highly contested. Jesus Quinonez of Tacoma, Washington finally beat Raye Raskin of Larkspur, California for first and second. Third place was won by a relative newcomer, Tom Rossi, of Salem, Oregon. Tom also had the high run of 7. The White flight was so even that at least six of the players could have won. Again, a relative newcomer, Bob Hilton of Ashland, Oregon won. Alfred Wenzl of Medford, Oregon and Galen Lee of Union City, California tied on wins, losses, and points but Alfred defeated Galen in their match therefore winning second place and giving Galen third. Marc Smith of Grants Pass, Oregon had the high run of 6. In the Blue flight there were many close matches but Ron Hopkins of Edmonds, Washington finally came in first. He also had the high run of 6. Dave Ehlers of Federal Way, Washington came in second and Harold Reid of Burns, Oregon finished third. We wish to extend a hearty thanks to the Ashland Elks Lodge #944 for their great hospitality. They hired extra bartenders for both Saturday and Sunday and kept the Lodge open way past their regular closing times. We will be having three more 3-cushion tournaments here this year and probably more in the future. A special thanks to the billiard chairman, Mark Williams, for all his work for the billiard players and, again, a thank you to Bob Tracy for donating the beautiful Gabriels tables to the Medford Oregon Billiard Players Association. Many other players contributed money to the Association and their names are noted on a plaque in the Ashland Elks billiard room. Red Flight "B" - Click for Results White Flight "C+" - Click for Results Blue Flight "C" - Click for Results When: Friday, Saturday, Sunday – May 9, 10, 11, 2014 Where: Ashland Elks #944 Entry $70.00 for "B" player and above There will be 2 divisions: "C" Division below .499 and "B" Division .500 and above. "B" and "C" players will be mixed together in flights. Everyone plays to 25 points. When two "C" players play they will put 5 points on the scoreboard and then play to 25. There will be a $10 per person deduction from the entry fees for the USBA and a $10 deduction per person for the Ashland Elks. All the rest of the entry fees will be paid to the "B" Division winners and the "C" Division winners based on the number of entries we get for each division. ONLY THOSE PLAYERS PAYING $70 ARE ELIGIBLE TO WIN THE "B" PRIZE MONEY Entry fee needs to be paid by May 5th, 2014 as no entries will be accepted after this date. Only paid entries will be scheduled for play. There will be a players meeting Friday at 9:30 AM & your schedule will be provided. Players need to be a member of the U.S.B.A. Those not a member can pay a one-time membership fee of $10.00 or pay the annual $50.00 membership fee at the tournament.
