The Welcome Mat to Three-Cushion Billiards
If you attend the USBA 2013 Nationals Three-Cushion tournament this April in Edison, New Jersey or any of the many tournaments at the Carom Café in New York, you will run into a lot of knowledgeable carom billiards spectators and of course players. Any one of them will happily explain to a neophyte the meaning of a "ticky," "cross table," whether to go "short or long," or any number of other oft used expressions. But try asking them about a "rail nurse" or even "balkline" and you will probably get a blank stare. These were once prominent terms in American billiards. But with the ascendency of 3-cushion billiards, the "small games"—straight rail, balkline and one-cushion—and their wonderful terminology have all but disappeared from popular consciousness.

Kang Wins NY Qualifier, Torres Finishes Second
Michael Kang emerged triumphant after a two-day qualifier at Carom Cafe, topping two-time national champion Miguel Torres in the final match 50 to 31 in 40 innings (1.250). With the win, Kang qualified for the USBA national tournament to be held from April 3 to 7, 2013, at the Super Billiard Expo at the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center in Edison. Though finishing second, Torres also qualified for the national championship.

The 10 players were split into two flights of 5 to play round robin.

Don't be scared... thirteen are in!
Thirteen players have earned spots in the 2013 USBA National Three-Cushion Championship Tournament in events completed through January 20, 2013.
The event will be held in April 2013, and for the first time in conjunction with the Allen Hopkins Super Billiards Expo. Players from all across the US will converge at the New Jersey Convention & Expo Center in Edison, New Jersey for five days of competition to see who will be crowned 2013 Champion. Forty-eight players are expected along with hundreds of spectators.
